Get Hair That Everyone Will Love This Winter!

Wake up in the morning and open your curtains to a foggy, misty morning; There's a chill in the air and it's time to start packing - winters are here! And while winters have a lot to love – steaming cups of tea, bowls of hot soup, and lots of fruit and vegetables, this is also a time when you need to take a little extra care with your hair and skin. Winter can be pretty brutal and it's usually when you lose a lot of hair, mainly because you're not taking care of it.

Here are some of the things you should keep in mind during the winter months to have hair that everyone will fall in love with!

Wash only when needed - Oil on hair and scalp - oily hair has excess, dry hair has less than needed. But every time you wash your hair with shampoo, you wash away all the natural oils from your scalp, leaving your hair dry and brittle. During the winter months, it is important to wash your hair only once or twice a week, preferably with a paraben and SLS/SLES-free shampoo.

Olive oil or coconut oil - Whether you choose luxurious jojoba oil, exquisite extra virgin olive oil or the ever-reliable coconut oil - you need to make sure you oil your hair before each shampooing session. If you're in the mood to pamper your hair, you can even add a few drops of hair-friendly essential oils like rosemary. Alternatively, you can look at ayurvedic oils with the goodness of brahmi, bhringaraj, amla and other herbs. Whatever oil you choose, be sure to warm it up a little and then massage it into the scalp and length of the hair. Allow the oil to nourish your hair for at least 30 minutes before washing it.

Condition first, wash later – Many people tend to wash their hair first with shampoo and then with conditioner. However, if you go to any good hair and skin clinic, they will tell you to do the opposite. When you care after shampooing, there is a chance that not all the conditioner will wash out; this can cause dirt and grime to adhere to these conditioner particles causing hair damage. However, if you apply conditioner first and let the nourishment absorb, the shampoo washes away all the excess, leaving your hair feeling healthy and soft!

Hot or lukewarm water? - While it feels great to be under the shower with hot water on a cold winter morning, your hair may not feel so good. Have you ever wondered why you use hot water to wash greasy dishes - because hot water will remove traces of grease faster and more effectively. Naturally, when you pour hot water on your hair, all the natural oils are washed away, making your hair dry and brittle, while also making your scalp dry and prone to dandruff. Whatever the season, it's best to stick to warm water for your hair.

Save these styling tools – Winters are that time of year when your hair already feels very delicate; therefore, when you use harsh chemicals or styling tools that use excessive heat, you expose them to more potential damage. So just for the winter months, keep these styling tools and styling products away and only use them when you really need them.

Pamper your hair - This is also the time to pamper your hair - if you want to massage your hair with some warm oil or go out for a proper hair spa, go ahead and do it. You can use a hair serum or even a night oil to make sure your hair is getting the moisture it needs. You can also look at hair masks made with aloe vera, yogurt or eggs, depending on your hair type, as these can provide deep hydration.

Finally, as in all seasons, make sure to drink plenty of water and eat enough fruits and vegetables, as these will provide the necessary nutrition from within.
